What is DuraPost fencing?

DuraPost is a modular fencing system built around lightweight steel fence posts. DuraPost Classic posts can be used with conventional timber fence panels, featheredge and closeboard fencing as well as the DuraPost VISTA composite fencing system, while DuraPost GateMate covers compatible gate-building options.

This means you do not have to choose composite fencing to use DuraPost. The steel posts can form the framework for a traditional timber fence, or they can be combined with VISTA boards and aluminium profiles to create a low-maintenance composite fence.

DuraPost steel fence posts for timber and composite fencing

DuraPost Classic posts are galvanised steel fence posts designed as an alternative to traditional timber or concrete posts. Their slim steel profile works with timber fencing and with DuraPost VISTA, so the same post system can be used across a wide range of garden fencing projects.

For most straight runs, the 2.4m DuraPost Classic steel fence post is the main intermediate post. A 2.7m Classic post is also available where the installation design calls for additional post length.

Can DuraPost steel posts be used with timber fence panels?

Yes. DuraPost steel fence posts can be used with standard timber fence panels, featheredge and closeboard fencing as well as compatible timber rails. This makes DuraPost a useful option when you want the strength and finish of a metal fence post without changing to composite fence boards.

The 2.4m Classic post is available in a galvanised finish as well as Anthracite Grey and Black powder-coated options, allowing the post to be matched to either traditional timber fencing or a more contemporary garden design.

What is DuraPost VISTA composite fencing?

DuraPost VISTA is the composite-board system within the DuraPost range. The VISTA composite fencing boards stack horizontally between matching aluminium infill profiles to create a solid, double-sided fence panel with a woodgrain finish.

VISTA boards are available in Graphite, Teak and Oyster. The posts and aluminium frame can be selected in Anthracite Grey or Black, so the board and frame colours can be combined to suit the finished fence.

A full-height VISTA bay uses several separate components rather than one pre-built panel. If you are planning a complete run, the DuraPost VISTA Fence Calculator works across the whole fence and calculates the board packs, aluminium profiles, shared posts, fixings and end connections together.

DuraPost GateMate gates and gate frames

DuraPost GateMate provides gate-building components that sit naturally alongside the DuraPost fencing system. The DuraPost GateMate adjustable steel gate frame creates a rigid telescopic frame for a made-to-measure timber gate, while our DuraPost GateMate timber gate kit builder calculates the frame, timber rails and cladding for the finished gate size.

Where a fence meets a suitable light-duty gate, changes direction or finishes at an end position, use the correct DuraPost gate, end and corner post rather than treating every position as a standard intermediate post.

Which DuraPost post or connection do I need?

The correct DuraPost component depends on its position in the fence. Straight intermediate positions, freestanding ends, walls, corners and gates do not all use the same post or connection.

For wall starts and selected corner or gate connections, the DuraPost U-Channel provides the side connection. The exact layout should be confirmed before posts are set, particularly where there are gates, changes in level or several corners.

How much DuraPost fencing do I need?

The quantity depends on the total fence length, finished height and how the run starts and finishes. Posts are shared between adjoining bays, so a complete fence should be calculated as one run rather than simply multiplying a standard panel kit by the number of bays.

For VISTA fencing, enter the fence length, height and end connections into our DuraPost Fence Calculator. It calculates the complete stocked material list and can add the full package to your basket in one go.

DuraPost colours and finishes

DuraPost Classic steel posts are stocked in selected Galvanised, Anthracite Grey and Black finishes depending on the post length and type. VISTA composite boards are available in Graphite, Teak and Oyster, with Anthracite Grey or Black aluminium framing.

Check the individual product page for the finishes available on the exact component you need, as not every DuraPost part is stocked in every colour.

DuraPost fencing FAQs

Is DuraPost the same as composite fencing?

No. DuraPost is the wider fencing system. Its Classic steel posts can be used with timber fencing, while VISTA is the composite fencing option within the DuraPost range.

What are DuraPost fence posts made from?

DuraPost Classic fence posts are manufactured from pre-galvanised cold-rolled steel. Depending on the option, they are supplied in a galvanised finish or with a Black or Anthracite Grey powder-coated finish.

Can I use DuraPost with featheredge fencing?

Yes. DuraPost Classic posts can be used with featheredge and closeboard timber fencing as well as standard timber panels and VISTA composite fencing.

Can I buy DuraPost components separately?

Yes. Posts, VISTA boards, aluminium profiles, screws, U-channels, infills, caps and gate components can be ordered individually. If you are building a complete VISTA fence, the calculator is the easier route for working out the full material list.
