More useful than area alone
Two projects can use the same total area but require a different number of sheets. This tool builds a guillotine-cutting sequence: every saw cut enters one edge and exits the opposite edge of the current sheet or separated panel. It also labels the reusable offcuts left at the end.
What is saw kerf?
Kerf is the strip of material removed by the blade. A 3mm kerf means neighbouring cuts need approximately 3mm of separation. Measure your own blade for the most reliable plan.
What is guillotine cutting?
A guillotine cut travels in one straight line across the full length or width of the current sheet or already-separated panel. It never starts or stops in the middle of the material, making the plan suitable for practical wall-saw and table-saw workflows.
Should I allow pieces to rotate?
Leave rotation enabled when direction does not matter. Turn it off for visible grain, patterned boards or any material that must run in a particular direction.
Does the optimiser guarantee the absolute minimum number of sheets?
It produces an efficient practical suggestion, but cutting-stock problems can have many possible layouts. Review the plan before buying or cutting, especially for complex or high-value work.
Can I use it for plywood, OSB and MDF?
Yes. Enter the actual sheet dimensions and use the rotation control where face direction, grain or strength orientation matters.
