Choose the hanger by the connection, not just the joist name
Match the hanger to the material it fixes to, the actual timber width and the connection design. The hangers in this collection are primarily timber-to-timber connectors. Masonry, steel, angled and sloping connections can require a different hanger type.
38mm hangers suit correctly sized CLS
Our 38mm mini hanger and 38mm standard hanger are sized for 38mm CLS and other timber where the actual member width matches the hanger.
47mm and 50mm are different hanger widths
Use a 47mm hanger for a 47mm member and a 50mm hanger for an actual 50mm member where that is what the connection specifies. Do not automatically substitute a 50mm hanger because the timber is sold under an imperial 2-inch trade name.
Mini hangers are compact; standard Jiffy hangers have longer legs
Mini or no-leg joist hangers are used for shallower trimming and are commonly used in decking. Standard Jiffy hangers have longer strap legs for deeper joists and can be face-fixed or wrapped over where the product specification permits.
Double hangers are for wider members
The 100mm double joist hanger provides a 100mm hanger width for connections designed around a wider or paired timber member. Match the actual member and the structural detail rather than assuming every pair of joists needs the same hanger.
Use the fixing specified for the hanger
Our standard and mini timber-to-timber hanger range uses 30mm square twist nails. Do not replace connector nails with ordinary wood or decking screws unless the hanger manufacturer specifically lists an approved connector screw.
