What are you building?
Choose the fencing products around the job you are doing. A stock fence normally needs wire, line posts and stronger strainer posts at ends, corners, gateways and changes of direction. Post and rail fencing normally uses round or square posts with half round rails. Field entrances and access points may also need farm gates, gate posts and suitable gate ironmongery.

Things to check before ordering
- Fence layout: Plan corners, ends, gateways and changes of direction before choosing posts and strainers.
- Post choice: Use suitable UC4 treated posts where the post is going into the ground.
- Wire tension: Stock fencing and barbed wire are tensioned systems, so end and corner support matters.
- Gate openings: Check the gate width, hanging side, latch side and post size before ordering.
- Ground conditions: Wet, exposed or uneven ground may need stronger posts, better support or a different installation method.
- Livestock use: Match the fence, wire and post spacing to the animals and the pressure the fence is likely to take.
Installation and suitability notes
For long fencing runs, high-tension wire, livestock-critical boundaries or exposed sites, use suitable end strainers, corner supports and a competent installer. Posts, wire and gates are only part of the system; layout, tensioning, ground conditions and fixing method all affect the finished fence.
