MDF sheets and boards

MDF (medium density fibreboard) is a smooth, consistent interior sheet material used for furniture, cabinetry, shelving, wall panelling and general joinery. MDF board and MDF sheets are commonly used names for the same material.

MDF sheet cutting service

Both the standard MDF and moisture resistant MDF products in this range are sold as complete 2440 × 1220mm sheets. We can cut the full sheet you purchase into the required sizes, which can save cutting time on site or in the workshop. The sale remains for the complete sheet rather than individual cut pieces.

Standard MDF or moisture resistant MDF?

Choose standard MDF for dry interior projects where a smooth, easy-to-machine surface is the priority. For kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and other humid interior spaces, choose moisture resistant MDF where increased resistance to humidity is required. Moisture resistant MDF is not waterproof and should not be treated as suitable for permanent water contact or exterior exposure unless a specific product specification says otherwise.

MDF sheet sizes and thicknesses

Our standard MDF sheets are 2440 × 1220mm, commonly called 8 × 4 sheets, in 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm and 25mm thicknesses. Moisture resistant MDF is available in 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 18mm and 22mm. Choose thickness according to the span, support, load and finish required for the project.

What is MDF used for?

MDF is widely used for painted furniture, cabinets, shelving, panelling, fitted interiors, decorative joinery and other indoor woodworking. Its smooth faces and consistent core make it straightforward to cut, drill, route, sand, prime and paint with suitable tools and finishing products.

Choose the right MDF

For normal dry interior use, choose standard MDF sheets. For humid interior areas, choose moisture resistant MDF sheets. For a finished board specifically intended for window reveals and sills, compare our MDF Window Boards.
