Quick answer: support the sheet properly, mark the cut accurately and use a straight guide with a suitable fine-tooth blade if you are using a circular saw. MDF creates a lot of fine dust, so use effective dust extraction and suitable respiratory protection.
Support both sides of the cut
Do not leave a large section of an 8×4 sheet hanging unsupported while you cut it. Support the board so both sides stay stable and the offcut cannot drop, pinch the blade or tear away at the end of the cut.
Use a straight guide for long cuts
For long straight cuts, clamp a straight edge or saw guide in place and account for the distance between the blade and the edge of the saw base. Measure both ends before cutting so the guide stays parallel to the required line.
Use a blade suited to clean sheet-material cuts
A sharp fine-tooth blade gives a cleaner result than a coarse construction blade. Cut steadily rather than forcing the saw through the sheet.
Control MDF dust
Cutting and sanding MDF produces fine wood dust. Use on-tool extraction where possible and suitable respiratory protection, especially for repeated cutting or work in an enclosed area.
