Roofing battens and roofing laths

Roof battens, roofing battens and roofing laths are used to provide fixing support across pitched roof construction. Our current range includes 25 × 50mm treated timber battens, a size also commonly searched for as 2 × 1 roofing batten.

Where the roofing specification calls for a graded batten, choose our BS 5534 Roofing Batten. For general external battening where a graded roofing batten is not specified, see our Green Treated Timber Batten.

BS 5534 roofing battens

The graded product is a treated 25 × 50mm roofing batten supplied in a 4.8m length and manufactured to BS 5534. This is the product to choose where the job specification requires BS 5534 graded roof battens for tiled or slated pitched roofing.

If you are comparing roof batten sizes, the current graded option is 25 × 50mm × 4.8m. The green treated batten uses the same 25 × 50mm section but is available in 2.4m, 3.6m, 4.2m and 4.8m lengths and should not be treated as a substitute where a graded batten is specified.

Timber firring strips for flat roofs

Timber firrings, firring strips and the alternative spelling furring strips are tapered timbers used to create a fall across flat roof construction so water can run towards the drainage point.

Choose our 3in to 0in Timber Firring Strips or 4in to 0in Timber Firring Strips. Both current firring products are sold in pairs and are available in 3.6m and 4.8m lengths.

Flat roof angle fillet and detailing

For perimeter edges and abutments, use our Flat Roof Angle Fillet / Tilt Fillet. The 3.0m timber fillet is supplied singly and is used before the flat roof covering is installed.

Roof batten fixings and related roofing materials

Are roofing laths the same as roofing battens?

Roofing lath and roofing batten are commonly used search terms for the timber fixed across a pitched roof to support the roof covering. Always select the individual product by the grading and specification required for the job.

What are roof firrings used for?

Roof firrings are tapered timber strips used to introduce a fall across a flat roof build-up. Our current 3in-to-0in and 4in-to-0in firrings are sold in pairs in 3.6m and 4.8m lengths.
