Current NFRC guidance refers to 3.35mm diameter nails, typically 65mm long, for fixing roofing battens, but the roof's fixing calculation can require a different nail size or type. Do not treat one nail as universal for every roof.
65 × 3.35mm is a common roof-batten fixing size
Wern-Wood's Sherardised Annular Ring Nails include a 65 × 3.35mm variant. Its dimensions match the common size referenced in NFRC roofing-batten guidance, but the project still needs to confirm that the nail type and corrosion protection suit the roof and exposure.
Our 65 × 2.65mm batten nails are not presented as the default fixing for graded roof battens
The 65 × 2.65mm Galvanised Batten Nails remain useful for general timber and batten fixing where that size is specified. They should not be substituted for a 3.35mm roofing-batten fixing simply because both nails are 65mm long.
Fix each roofing batten to the support as specified
NFRC guidance requires roofing battens to be securely fixed to the rafters or other supports, with joints formed over the support rather than floating between them. It also recommends battens long enough to span at least three supports wherever practical.
Wind exposure and corrosion can change the fixing
The required withdrawal resistance and corrosion protection depend on the roof design and exposure. That is why the fixing calculation and project specification take priority over a generic nail-size rule.
