Why choose DuraPost?
DuraPost replaces a traditional timber or concrete fence post with a slim galvanised steel post. A 2.4m Classic post weighs around 7.1kg — roughly 80% lighter than an equivalent concrete post — which makes carrying, positioning and levelling the fence considerably easier.
The steel post will not rot like timber or crack like concrete. Galvanised Classic posts carry a manufacturer guarantee of up to 15 years, while qualifying powder-coated DuraPost products can carry a guarantee of up to 25 years. Birkdale requires eligible products to be registered within 28 days of delivery for the guarantee to apply; check the current DuraPost guarantee terms before installation.
Metal fence posts and steel fence posts
DuraPost Classic is our metal / steel fence post system. The posts are manufactured from galvanised steel and can be used with timber fence panels, featheredge, closeboard and compatible DuraPost VISTA fencing.
For a normal straight fence run, start with the 2.4m DuraPost Classic Steel Fence Post. If you need additional post length, use the 2.7m Classic Steel Fence Post. Corners, selected end connections and suitable light-duty gates use the DuraPost Light Duty Gate, End & Corner Post.
DuraPost works with normal timber fencing
You do not need composite fencing to use DuraPost. Classic steel posts can be used with timber fence panels, featheredge, closeboard and compatible timber rails.
For traditional closeboard fencing, the timber rails can be fixed to the steel posts and the featheredge boards installed in the normal way. The steel post can remain visible as part of the design or the timber can be arranged to create a more traditional finished appearance.

What is DuraPost VISTA?
VISTA is the composite fencing system within DuraPost. One approximately 6ft × 6ft bay uses three packs of VISTA composite boards, one four-piece aluminium frame set, one bag of VISTA screws and the correct DuraPost posts for the complete run.
The aluminium set contains two side rails, one top rail and one bottom rail. A gravel board is not part of the standard VISTA bay. The composite boards can be cut to length for a narrower final bay, with the matching aluminium frame cut to suit.
Posts are shared between adjoining bays, so calculate the whole fence rather than buying two posts for every section. Use the DuraPost VISTA Fence Calculator for a complete run.
What is GateMate?
GateMate is the gate-building system. The adjustable steel GateMate frame forms the structural skeleton of a timber garden gate. Timber is then fixed to the frame to create the finished appearance.
If you also want the timber calculated, use the GateMate Complete Timber Gate Kit Builder. The finished gate should be supported by a gate post correctly specified for its size and weight.
DuraPost is designed to make a strong fence easier to handle
The slim steel profile takes up less space than a concrete post and is much easier for one person to manoeuvre. Birkdale states that DuraPost has been tested to withstand wind speeds of up to 110mph. DuraPost can also be paired with traditional timber, modern composite fencing and different frame colours, so the post can either blend into the fence or become part of the finished design.
DuraPost is manufactured in the UK. Birkdale states the steel system uses 50% recycled steel and is 100% recyclable at the end of its service life.
