Description
This rubber seal is a specified acoustic-system component used to close the interface between the Sound Shield Pro timber panel and the supporting post arrangement. In an acoustic fence, this detail matters because even a narrow continuous gap can create a direct path for sound.
Who needs this seal?
Use it where the selected Sound Shield Pro construction specifies the EPDM rubber sealing detail. It is not a general-purpose fence strip and should be ordered from the complete acoustic specification rather than by appearance.
What does it do?
- closes the designed gap between the acoustic panel and post
- helps maintain a continuous reflective barrier
- allows the Sound Shield Pro board system to interface correctly with the specified DuraPost arrangement
How many are needed?
Birkdale's current 45mm Sound Shield Pro data sheet specifies 2 × 43 × 22 × 2400mm rubber seals per nominal 2.4 × 2.4m bay. Use that quantity only with the matching 45mm construction.
What else is required for the 45mm acoustic bay?
Birkdale's published 2.4 × 2.4m example uses:
- 12 × 45mm acoustic boards
- 1 × timber capping length
- 2 × rubber seals
- the compatible supporting post
- the specified timber/post fixings
Why not leave the gap open?
Sound Shield Pro works as a complete barrier. The boards, seals, capping and post interfaces all contribute to closing the acoustic path, so the seal should be treated as part of the construction rather than an optional finishing accessory.
See the Sound Shield Pro acoustic boards for the complete-system explanation.
