Description
The DuraPost Aluminium Pedestrian Gate Frame is the structural frame used to build a fully coordinated metal gate within a DuraPost fence. It is intended for design-led gardens and premium boundary schemes where the gate should feel like part of the fencing system rather than an unrelated timber gate added afterwards.
Who is it for?
It suits homeowners, garden designers, landscape architects and installers specifying a durable pedestrian gate with a clean powder-coated finish and replaceable modular components.
What is included in the frame?
Birkdale supplies the frame as the aluminium skeleton and cover pieces. It includes:
- top and bottom aluminium cross rails
- hinge-side and lock-side uprights
- cover strips for the top, lock side and hinge side
- slam/hinge receiver components
The frame is not a complete working gate on its own. It still needs infill and the dedicated hardware kit.
What else do I need to build the complete gate?
- 1 × DuraPost Aluminium Gate Frame — this product
- DuraPost aluminium/composite gate infill panels
- DuraPost Aluminium Gate Hardware Kit — hinges, lock components, corner joints and fixings
- a third-hinge kit where the completed gate weight/specification calls for additional support
- suitable DuraPost gate posts
- U-Channels on the fencing side of the gate posts where adjoining fence bays need to connect
How much can the frame be adjusted?
The gate frame is designed to be cut down in both width and height. Birkdale's current product information gives a maximum opening of approximately 1.77m high × 1.188m wide.
Measure the actual opening between the installed gate posts before cutting. Birkdale's assembly instructions state that the horizontal rail length should be calculated as gate opening minus 234mm. Cut the infill panels to the same finished width.
Can the height be reduced?
Yes. The uprights can be shortened and Birkdale specifies reducing the infill height in 150mm increments to suit the modular panels.
How does the gate go together?
- Confirm the finished opening between the gate posts.
- Cut the top/bottom rails and infill panels to the required width.
- Cut the uprights if the height needs reducing.
- Assemble the corner joints and aluminium frame.
- Fit the infill panels into the frame.
- Install the dedicated hinges, lock and hardware kit.
- Hang and adjust the completed gate between the correctly installed gate posts.
Installation manual
Use the official DuraPost Aluminium Gate assembly instructions before cutting the frame.
For the surrounding fence, remember that Birkdale specifies a DuraPost U-Channel on the fencing side of a gate post where the adjacent fence panel or rails need to terminate against it.
Why choose the aluminium gate system?
It gives the entrance the same permanence and precision as the fence around it. Rather than fitting a timber gate into a premium metal/composite scheme, the aluminium frame lets the gate become part of the architecture.
