Description
DuraPost Light Duty Gate, End & Corner Posts are square steel posts designed to solve the places where a normal intermediate Classic post is not the right shape: gates, ends and 90° corners. They are part of the connection architecture of a DuraPost fence rather than simply a heavier-looking post.
Who should use this post?
Use it for residential and light-commercial DuraPost layouts where the fence needs to terminate neatly, turn a corner or support a lighter gate. Birkdale rates the Light Duty Gate/End/Corner Post for gates weighing up to 30kg.
Use it as a gate post
Gate hardware can be fixed directly to the steel post with appropriate self-drilling fixings, or a piece of 3×2 timber can first be secured to the post and the gate ironmongery fixed to the timber.
If fencing continues away from the gate post, add a DuraPost U-Channel on the fencing side. The panel, rail or composite system then terminates into that channel.
Use it as a corner post
For a 90° DuraPost corner, fix U-Channels to the required faces of the square post. Each fence run then terminates into its own channel, giving a much cleaner and more deliberate corner than trying to twist a standard intermediate post around the change of direction.
Use it as an end post
At the end of a run, the square post creates a clean termination. Add a U-Channel on the fence side where the infill needs a receiving channel.
What else might I need?
- DuraPost U-Channel for the fence connection
- gate hinges/latch or the specified gate hardware if hanging a gate
- a matching post cap
- the correct self-drilling fixings for the connection detail
- the fence panel, rails or composite system that terminates at the post
Light Duty or Heavy Duty gate post?
Choose the Light Duty post for gates within Birkdale's stated 30kg maximum and where the project does not require the heavier 75 × 75 × 3mm section. For larger/heavier gates or more demanding installations, use the Heavy Duty Gate Post where appropriate.
Birkdale's gate-post guidance confirms that a U-Channel is required on the fencing side of a gate post where fence panels or rails need to connect.
Why use the square DuraPost connection post?
It gives gates, corners and terminations a clean structural node instead of forcing a standard intermediate post to do a job it was not shaped for. That makes the whole run easier to detail and much more convincing visually.
