Which MR MDF thickness should I choose?

MR MDF thickness Typical uses
6mm Backing, lining and thinner humid-interior panel work.
9mm Panels, boxing-in and light cabinetry.
12mm Cabinet components, supported shelving, panelling and joinery.
18mm Cabinets, fitted furniture, shelves and projects needing a stiffer board.
22mm Thicker furniture components, shelving and joinery where extra rigidity is useful.

Can moisture resistant MDF be cut to size?

Yes. We can cut the complete 2440 × 1220mm sheet you purchase to your required sizes. You still purchase the full sheet rather than only the individual cut pieces.

Where is moisture resistant MDF used?

MR MDF is commonly used for kitchen and bathroom furniture, utility-room units, wall panelling, fitted furniture, cabinets and decorative interior joinery where higher humidity is expected. It offers increased humidity resistance while retaining the smooth, consistent finish of MDF.

Prime and paint cut edges in humid rooms

For the best finished result, prime and paint exposed faces and cut edges. Freshly cut MDF edges are more absorbent than the factory face, so give them particular attention during preparation. See our guide to painting MDF edges smoothly.
