How to fit Loft Legs
Position the Loft Legs on the ceiling joists at widths to suit your loft boards, keeping the distance between leg centres within the recommended 610mm maximum. Secure the legs through the pilot holes, lay the insulation around the supports and then screw the flooring panels to the top platforms.
Loft Legs are intended to create a raised storage platform. They are not intended to convert a loft into living accommodation.
How many Loft Legs do I need?
For 2400 × 600mm boards laid in a continuous row, the support layout depends on your existing joist centres:
- 400mm joist centres: 14 Loft Legs for the first board, then 7 additional legs for each adjoining board because the board edges share supports.
- 600mm joist centres: 10 Loft Legs for the first board, then 5 additional legs for each adjoining board.
For example, two 2400 × 600mm boards require 21 legs at 400mm joist centres or 15 legs at 600mm joist centres. Always base the final layout on the actual joist spacing and shape of the area being boarded.
