How to board your loft

1. Choose your loft boards

Use P5 tongue & groove chipboard or suitable OSB3 T&G boards to create the boarded storage platform.

2. Raise the floor above the insulation

175mm Loft Legs create raised loft flooring above the insulation, helping avoid compressing the insulation beneath the boarded area.

3. Add or upgrade your loft insulation

If you are already working in the loft, it is a good opportunity to check the insulation beneath the new storage platform and add more where required.

4. Use the right fixings

Loft Legs use 4 x 30mm multipurpose screws for fixing to the joists. Suitable wood screws can also be selected for securing the loft boards.

5. Add or replace your loft access

If your loft hatch needs upgrading, shop our loft access doors & hatches, including insulated Timloc drop-in and hinged loft hatches plus opening accessories.

For storage use only: check that the existing ceiling joists or trusses are suitable for the additional loading before creating a raised loft storage deck.
