Description
Knee Rail Straps – L Shape
Metal fixing straps for securing timber knee rails to their supporting posts. Supplied with one 90° bend already formed, the strap can be shaped around the timber connection on site and fixed in place to help hold the rail securely.
Commonly used when building knee rail or birdsmouth-style fencing around car parks, driveways, paths, landscaped areas and other low-level boundaries.
What is a knee rail strap?
Knee rail fencing uses a horizontal timber rail supported on relatively short posts rather than a full-height fence panel.
The rail needs to be securely connected to the post. A knee rail strap wraps around the timber connection and provides fixing points on more than one face of the joint.
These straps are supplied in an L shape with one 90° bend already formed, making them easier to position and then form around the timber during installation.
Why use an L-shaped strap?
The pre-formed bend gives the installer a starting point for the joint rather than working with a completely flat strip of metal.
Once positioned, the remaining sections can be formed around the timber as required and secured using suitable exterior fixings.
This makes them useful for fencing connections where a simple fixing driven straight through the top of the rail would not provide the same wrap-around restraint.
Common uses
Typically used for:

Knee rail fencing

Birdsmouth fencing
-
Low timber boundaries
-
Car park perimeter fencing

Which size do I need?
Two widths are stocked:
75 × 250 × 250mm
The narrower strap option. Choose this where the dimensions of your knee rail/post connection suit a 75mm-wide strap.
100 × 250 × 250mm
The wider option, providing greater coverage across the timber connection where a 100mm-wide strap is required.
The 250 × 250mm measurements refer to the two lengths either side of the bend.
Check the dimensions of the timber and the required strap coverage before ordering. Do not assume the wider strap is automatically the better option.

Installation
Position the rail correctly on the supporting post, place the strap over the connection and form it around the timber as required.
Secure the strap using fixings suitable for both the strap and the timber being used.
The exact fixing method and fixing size will depend on the fencing system, timber dimensions and site requirements.
