What is BS 1088 marine plywood?
BS 1088 is the British Standard for marine plywood. It sets requirements for marine-plywood manufacture, including bond durability and resistance to biological deterioration. It does not make an unfinished sheet a complete waterproof system or prove that a particular finished project is structurally suitable.
Is marine plywood waterproof?
Marine plywood is made for demanding applications, but an unfinished sheet should not be treated as a permanent waterproof surface. Cut edges, faces, holes, fixings and joints still need appropriate protection for the application. For exposed or moisture-prone work, plan the coating, sealing, drainage and maintenance as part of the job.

When should you choose marine plywood?

- When moisture exposure is a serious consideration and the project will be correctly sealed and detailed.
- When a higher-spec plywood is justified over a general-purpose interior board.
