Timber or concrete gravel boards?

For featheredge, closeboard and timber panel fencing, Treated Softwood Gravel Boards are the wooden option. The range covers 100mm, 150mm and 200mm board heights, with lengths from 1.8m to 4.8m depending on the section.

For compatible slotted concrete-post and fence-panel systems, choose the Concrete Gravel Board. It is a smooth 1830 × 300mm board — approximately 6ft × 12in — manufactured from wet-cast concrete with internal steel reinforcement.

What is a gravel board?

A gravel board sits at the bottom of a fence between the posts. It keeps the main fence panel or boards away from direct ground contact, helps reduce splashback and wear at the base of the fence, and gives the run a clean bottom edge. Depending on the fencing system, gravel boards may also be described as fence base boards or kick boards.

Gravel board sizes

  • 100 × 25mm timber: 2.4m, 3.6m and 4.8m lengths.
  • 150 × 25mm timber: 1.8m, 2.4m, 3.6m and 4.8m lengths.
  • 200 × 25mm timber: 4.8m length.
  • 1830 × 300mm concrete: approximately 6ft × 12in for compatible concrete-post systems.
